We discussed future events, including the Vals' participation in both Clarksville Pride (May 19-20, 2006) and
Nashville Pride (June 3, 2006) festivities. After the meeting, some of our members met with a local church youth
group for a Q&A session about transgender issues.

Along with our usual business, we announced the incorporation of the Tennessee Vals, effective
February 7, 2006. Our organization is now a public benefit, nonprofit corporation operating as a
tax-exempt entity under §501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, so any donations given to the
Tennessee Vals will be deductible for federal income tax purposes. Also, we encouraged everyone
to attend the Second Annual Belles' Ball, Sunday, February 19, 2006, at DeVil's (339 Wilhagen Road,
Nashville, TN, 615-366-6696). See the flier for details.
Unfortunately, our planned guest speaker had a last-minute emergency and couldn't make it this month,
but our Events Director was ready with a presentation of her own. Shayna Aubrey discussed facial care
and make-up application, and she brought along some of the tools-of-the-trade for beauty and grooming.

During our first meeting of 2006, we held an open forum for discussing suggestions regarding
the continued improvement of our organization; specifically, ways in which we can better serve
the needs and fulfill the expectations of our membership. We received several helpful suggestions
about the content of our meetings and regular events, but our members should always feel free
to contact the Board of Directors with any new ideas for making our
meetings more enjoyable and helpful. The organization needs to know what its members expect in
order to provide adequate support for the local transgender community.
